New Big R store planned for 30-acre site on the West Plains
Western-lifestyle retailer eyes third Spokane-area outlet

Of the Journal of Business

Great Falls, Mont.-based CSWW Inc., which does business as Big R Stores, says it has acquired nearly 30 acres of land on the West Plains and plans to develop a retail store there.

The property is south of and adjacent to the Cyrus O'Leary's Pies Inc. production plant, which is located at 1528 S. Hayford, about two blocks south of U.S. 2.

The terms of the transaction weren't disclosed, and the company hasn't said when it expects to open an outlet there.

"A new store is planned for the area, but those plans are very preliminary," Wayne Wilke says in a press release about the land purchase. Wilke couldn't be reached for further comment.

Albert Tripp, Airway Heights' city manager, says the city has been corresponding with a company that's interested in erecting a large retail store and distribution facility on the property.

Big R Stores focuses on product lines that serve farm and ranch needs, such as agricultural and livestock supplies.

In recent years, Big R Stores has expanded its western-lifestyle inventory to include sporting goods, automotive products, clothing, tools, pet needs, horse tack, lawn and garden supplies, tools, art, and jewelry, the company says.

CSWW was founded in 1997. It operates 10 Big R Stores outlets, including five in Washington and three in Idaho.

Its Spokane-area outlets include the 55,600-square-foot Mead store at 15228 N. Newport Highway and the 32,100-square-foot store at 8703 E. Trent, in Spokane Valley. The company also operates a store in north Coeur d'Alene, at 170 E. Kathleen.
