AMR to relocate operations to Washington Street building

Remodel on new location set to wrap by December

Spokane-based Maxwell Washington Partners LLC and Meridian Construction & Development Inc. have partnered to do a top-to-bottom building renovation for a new American Medical Response Inc. facility north of downtown Spokane.

Interior demolition work is under way at the three-story, 32,400-square-foot building located at 1425 N. Washington, says Mark D’Agostino, president of Meridian.

AMR is an emergency and nonemergency medical transport service.

Interior demolition at the site began two weeks ago, he adds, and should wrap up by the end of this week. Improvements are slated to be completed by December.

After renovations, the building, formerly occupied by Florida-based web technology company Web.com, will include administration offices, dispatch classrooms, training areas, crew rooms, conference rooms, and workout facilities with locker-rooms, D’Agostino says.

The facility is located a few blocks north of Riverfront Park, near the Rock Pointe Corporate Center, and southeast of North Central High School.

Meridian, the contractor on the project, also is building an extensive canopy to shelter AMRs ambulances, D’Agostino adds. Permits show covered parking totaling 5,700 square feet is planned for the site.

The project also will include a 760-square-foot carwash building and a full upgrade of the existing parking lot to allow more than 150 vehicles to be parked onsite.

In total, the project is estimated to be valued at $1.8 million, D’Agostino says.

Spokane-based Wolfe Architectural Group PS designed the remodel project.

Spokane County Assessor’s Office records show Maxwell purchased the 1.64-acre property on July 31 of this year for $1.2 million.

D’Agostino says Maxwell Partners purchased the structure with the intent of renovating the space for AMR’s operations.

AMR currently has two Spokane locations. One is at 915 W. Sharp, about four blocks west of the former Web.com building, and the other is at 530 E. North Foothills Drive, about 1.5 miles east of the structure.

The company’s Spokane operations employ about 170 paramedics and emergency medical technicians. Collectively, they handle an average of 45,000 calls a year, according to the company website.

AMR plans to consolidate its operations once renovations are complete, D’Agostino says. The Sharp Street location will remain active, but a number of its amenities will be relocated to the new facility, while the North Foothills Drive location will close.

Web.com closed its Spokane office in June 2019, laying off 64 workers here, the Journal reported at the time.

A company spokesman said the website design and online marketing company was discontinuing or transferring positions to other Web.com offices as part of a strategic restructuring plan.
