Anytime Fitness plans fall opening in Spokane Valley

John and Sabrina D’Angelo say they want to build a fitness club for those who are and aren’t fit.
The Anytime Fitness club is expected to open at 13004 E. Sprague between mid-October and early November.
The soon-to-be franchisee owners of the club are trying to do something different.
“There are a lot of fitness centers out there who say they’re all inclusive and welcoming of everyone,” Sabrina D’Angelo says. “But a lot of times that just isn’t the case.”
The D’Angelos’ goal is to build an “anti-stigma, anti-bias” fitness club, where plus-sized members feel comfortable. The couple recently moved to Spokane from Seattle. Sabrina D’Angelo is a Spokane native.
After deciding to move to Spokane, the two personal trainers pondered retiring but then decided to pursue the idea of a more broadly operated club.
“Health and fitness have always been too narrow in their scope,” she says. “It’s not about being skinny; it’s about a healthy lifestyle, which also includes exercise.”
Within the recently constructed 6,000-square-foot building, which is immediately next door to State Bank Northwest, the D’Angelo’s plan a club that offers seminars dedicated to a variety of health topics, including nutrition.
“Through the years, I’ve been surprised at what people don’t know,” she says. “We want to be a premier training center where someone who is 400 pounds will feel welcome.”
Spokane-based Baker Construction & Development Inc. is the contractor handling construction of the new facility, a $360,000 project.
The couple will begin preselling memberships in the club’s parking lot beginning next week.
The club will be staffed 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Round-the-clock access will be available for all members.
