Bed, mattress shops close their doors

  • Print Article

The Simmons Comfort World stores at 1001 N. Division and 8710 N. Division have closed their doors.

Scott Sloan, who represents the store's owners through his own company, Market Vision Inc., says the two stores "were unable to re-negotiate their leases." He says a Comfort World store at 350 W. Bosanko, in Coeur d'Alene, is still open.

Ken and Helen Mullinax, who own Mattress Outlet Inc., of Spokane, bought the Comfort World stores in 2007, Sloan said earlier.

The Mullinaxes could not be reached this week for comment about the closures of the two stores on Division.

The store at 1001 N. Division, which is at the northwest corner of the intersection of Division Street and Cataldo Avenue, became harder to see and less desirable as a location after Division was made one-way there several years ago, Sloan says. The store has been emptied of its bed furnishings, the Comfort World name has been covered over on the building, and a Spokane real estate group is listing the property.

Greg Byrd, one of the owners of that group, Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, says the nearly 20,000 square feet of floor space the Comfort World outlet was occupying there became available for lease or sale last month.
