Weather forecaster buys barre studio

Leslie Lowe, Spokane TV weather forecaster and co-anchor of KHQ’s Wakeup Show, now owns the Pure Barre studio at 13910 E. Indiana, in Spokane Valley.
Pure Barre is a workout method in which participants perform small isometric movements using a ballet barre to in an effort to burn fat and sculpt muscles. Started in 2001 by Carrie Dorr, Pure Barre is now a franchise operation with more than 300 studios across the U.S.
Lowe and her husband, Brent, bought the Spokane Valley studio from former owner Katie Wood in June.
“I’d been attending classes there for about five years, and I just really loved barre workouts and the community there,” says Lowe. “So, when it came up for sale, we decided to jump on it.”
The couple have since remodeled the 750-square-foot space, increased staff, and added some new classes to Pure Barre’s workout offerings.
“We gave it a small facelift with a fresh coat of paint and new equipment and furniture,” she says. “All of the old staff stayed on, but we’ve added some more instructors for a total of 15.”
She says the studio has added a few new classes already and plans to add more in the fall.
“One of the new classes is called ‘Bring Your Guy to the Barre Night,’ where people can bring their significant other along for the evening,” she says. “We also plan to add a class called Wine Wednesdays this September.”
Looking ahead, Lowe says she hopes to grow the studio’s membership and potentially open additional locations.
“I’d love to see it grow, because it’s such a great physical and mental workout,” she says. “If all goes well, maybe we’ll open another location eventually.”
