Construction valued at $3.1 million has started on 11 of 22 planned single-family homes in Greenacres, says Jayson Hunnel, vice president of planning for Lexington Homes-DHR LLC, the Spokane Valley affiliate of Arlington, Texas-based homebuilder D.R. Horton.

The other 11 planned homes are still in the permitting process, says Hunnel. Construction on them is expected to be underway by February and be completed by June.

In total, the construction value for all 22 homes will likely be more than $6 million. Lexington Homes Inc., of Spokane, is the contractor.

Hunnel says the parcels were purchased by Lexington Homes for $1.2 million on Aug. 20.

All of the homes will be built in an area north of east Cataldo Avenue between north Tschirley Court and north Manifold Lane, he says.

Records show six of the first 11 homes will be built on the 1700 block of east Desmet Avenue, which terminates in a cul-de-sac within the development, Spokane County Assessor’s records show. The other five are being built on the 1000 block of north Viewmont Road, which connects Cataldo on the south side of the development and Desmet near the north end.

The first 11 homes are valued between $296,400 and $245,300, says Hunnel. Across all 22 homes, the project will have five different floor plans ranging between 1,400 and 2,300 square feet, and all of the residences will have attached two or three car garages.

Hunnel says the construction was “an opportunity for us to begin building velocity out in the Valley.”

As previously reported by the Journal, D.R. Horton acquired longtime Spokane Valley homebuilder Lexington Homes Inc. earlier this year.

Lexington Homes began in Spokane in 1997. The company constructed and moved into its own building at 11900 E. Broadway in 2005. D.R. Horton was founded in 1978, and now boasts that it’s the largest homebuilder in the U.S.
