Indoor virtual golf facility Golf Island has opened in the Riverstone area of Coeur d'Alene, at 2410 N. Old Mill Loop. Owners Thomas Tedder—founder of Post Falls-based gun holster manufacturer Tedder Industries LLC—and Taylor Vold debuted the five-bay, 5,200-square-foot virtual golf center last month. Vold and one employee operate the facility.

Players can go online or call to book time in a 20-by-20-foot virtual bay. Golfers bring their own clubs to play through their choice of more than 100 courses displayed on 10-by-18-foot projector screens. Virtual golf allows players to work on their game year-round, without worrying about weather conditions.

Rates are $40 per hour Monday through Wednesday and $50 per hour Thursday through Sunday. Free golf club storage is available.

Vold says a small kitchen is currently under construction, and is expected to open next month to offer customizable pizzas using 14-inch crusts from Post Falls-based New York Pizza Dept.

Gourmet hot dogs could be added to the menu in the future, Vold says. Golf Island currently offers beverages, including beer, cocktails, wine, tea, soda, and sports drinks.

Until the kitchen opens, Golf Island is limited to adults aged 21 and older.
