Northwest Body Mod is a new kid-friendly tattoo and piercing shop that opened last month at 4823 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley.

Business owner Philip Sachs, who has 20 years of tattooing experience, says that in opening his own shop he wanted to create a more welcoming atmosphere for his clients.

“Every shop I’ve worked at has occasionally had clients who need to bring their kids along, and artists can get frustrated with that,” he says. “Because most kids are active and get bored easily, I thought it made sense to help accommodate parents by adding an area where kids could play while mom or dad gets a tattoo or piercing.”

He says the kid’s corner is located near the front of the shop, and includes a smart television with Netflix, an Xbox with games, a countertop with coloring books, an art easel, and two LeapFrog electronic tablets.

“I have three kids myself, so I created the space for them as well as for clients,” he says. “To me it was just a no-brainer to make a space like what you see in professional settings like a doctor or dentist’s office.”

Sachs says the shop offers both tattoo and piercing services, and he and his apprentice are currently the only two employees.
