Pounder’s Jewelry acquires Spokane Clock

Pounder’s Jewelry, at 3131 N. Division, says it has purchased the Spokane Clock, 3140 N. Division, and moved that business’ operations under its roof.

“We have a separate watch division at Pounder’s,” says Dave Sharp, a horologist at Pounder’s Jewelry. “We’ve made Spokane Clock a part of our watch and timekeeping department.”

Founded in 1956, Pounder’s brought one of Spokane Clock’s horologists – one who studies the art of making timepieces – to its company.

“My understanding is that this is a dwindling art, and that it’s getting more difficult to find people and places who can service the gears, workings ... springs of more traditional timepieces,” he says.

The proliferation of digital technology also has helped contribute to the reduction of the field of horology, he says.

However, plenty of customers require the servicing of their existing timepieces.

“People come to us from hundreds of miles away simply because they don’t have anyone in their immediate area who can service their watches and clocks,” Sharp says.
