Pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging company Jubilant HollisterStier has started a $92 million expansion of its plant in east Spokane.

Lydig Construction Inc., of Spokane Valley, is the general contractor on the project, which involves adding 50,000 square feet of space to the plant located at 3525 N. Regal. Philadelphia area-based IPS-Integrated Project Services is providing design and engineering services.

As the Journal previously reported, the expansion will accommodate a new high-speed, 400-vial-per-minute injectable fill line, with isolator technology enabling high levels of sterility. It also will house two 300-square-foot lyophilizers, or freeze dryers.

Construction of the addition is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The new fill line is scheduled to be operational about a year later. Once up and running, the new equipment will increase the facility’s capacity to make sterile injectable products by 50%.

The pharmaceutical manufacturer plans to hire 250 people to work in the expanded space and had started that hiring process late last year. The company had 731 full-time employees in Spokane as of last Nov. 1.
