Spokane Valley-based home care company Family First Senior Care Inc. has acquired the assets of Lighthouse Care Management Inc., of Spokane, says Jennipher Ama, president and owner of Family First.

Former Lighthouse owner Nancy Doughty will work for Family First Senior Care, which is located at 521 N. Argonne, under an affiliated company named Family First Care Management LLC,  Ama says. Ama declines to disclose the terms of the transaction.

The main assets acquired in the transaction were Doughty’s client list and the contract with Doughty herself, Ama says.

“There wasn’t an office or any other large assets that we acquired,” she says.

With the acquisition, Family First now will be offering geriatric care management services, Ama says. Those services include evaluating clients’ medical, financial, social, and cognitive issues, as well as helping clients choose a retirement facility, sign up for Medicare and Medicaid, secure long-term care insurance, and select in-home care services.

The cost for the care management services runs between $90 and $97 an hour, she says.

“Basically, we act as professional advocates,” she says. “We help guide people through the decisions that surround senior care.”

Family First, which has been operating here since 2005, provides in-home care services for seniors. Family First’s caretakers can provide services for a few hours  or up to 24 hours a day.  Its care services include meal preparation, transportation, medication, and bathing assistance. It also has staff who are trained specially to assist clients with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Parkinson’s.

The company employs about 70 people here in total, Ama says.

It’s currently seeking a social worker for its care management division, she says. Family First Care Management will operate with three employees: the social worker, Doughty, and Ama herself, who is also a registered nurse.
