Idaho concern to handle $2.5 million Spokane County sewer, paving job

April 8, 2010
Jeanne Gustafson

T. LaRiviere Equipment & Excavation Inc., of Athol, Idaho, has won a $2.5 million Spokane County contract to install sewer line in Spokane Valley that eventually will serve about 250 homes there.

The project will include excavating the roadways and installing sewer pipes along Wellesley Avenue between McDonald and Evergreen roads, and Evergreen between Wellesley and Sanson Road. Similar work will occur on McDonald, Keller, and Mayhew roads between Sanson and Wellesley, says Tom LaRiviere III, who owns the company with his father, Tom LaRiviere Sr.

As each segment of sewer work is done, the company will repave the roads under the same contract, LaRiviere says.

He says the work is to begin in mid-April and likely will be completed in mid-September. During the project, there will be some road closures, LaRiviere says. The project is part of a larger effort by the county to eliminate septic tanks over the Spokane-Rathdrum Aquifer.

Residents of the city of Spokane Valley currently receive their sewer services from Spokane County. Connecting to the sewer stubs that are installed in the project is the homeowners' responsibility.
