Pizza chain moves store, commissary

Owner says local food-prep operation, store lost lease at Washington Street site

October 15, 2009

Pizza Pipeline Inc., of Spokane, has moved its commissary operation and its original pizza restaurant from their long-time location at 1303 N. Washington to two separate locations here.

Mike Kight, who founded the restaurant with partner Gene Boik 21 years ago, says the company lost its lease for the 6,000-square-foot space on Washington.

Last week, it reopened the retail store in a 1,500-square-foot space at 1403 N. Division, Kight says.

In July, Pizza Pipeline moved its commissary to a 3,800-square-foot leased space at 3605 E. Rowan. There, it employs five people who prepare daily the ingredients used at its six company-owned stores here. Carlos Herrera, of NAI Black, of Spokane, handled the lease for Pizza Pipeline for that location, Kight says.

Outside of Spokane, Pizza Pipeline sells franchises in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana, and has a total of nine franchisees in those states. It also is licensed to franchise in California, but doesn't have any franchises there yet, Kight says. The company employs about 130 people in Spokane, he says.
