Better Bed & Back, a specialty furniture and mattress store, is moving to downtown Spokane from the North Side, so it will have more showroom space and a more central location, its owner says.
Tom Weldon, who owns the store with his wife, Janet, says the couple closed their store at 6417 N. Division last week after two years there and will reopen Friday on the skywalk level of the Saad Building, at 702 W. Main, which is attached to River Park Square. The new space will have a 1,400-square-foot showroom, compared with a 1,200-square-foot showroom at the North Side store, Weldon says. The couple has been operating the store through a company called Better Back Inc.
The store sells massage chairs, ergonomic office chairs and desks, and Tempur-Pedic brand mattresses, Weldon says. It also carries inversion tables, which stretch the back out and decompress the spine, he says.
Business has been good, despite the recession, Weldon says, adding that sales were up more than 25 percent during the first four months of the year, compared with the year-earlier period.
The new location was remodeled by Gutman Construction Inc., of Spokane.
In addition to the Weldons, the business employs five people, and expects to hire another part-time employee soon.
