Trudeau's adds to its boat lines

Sea Ray dealer picks up brands formerly sold by now-shuttered rival

October 23, 2008

Trudeau's Marina, of Spokane, a longtime Sea Ray and Boston Whaler boat dealer, has picked up boat lines sold here formerly by Olympic Boat Centers.

The dealership's new boat lines are Bayliner, Trophy, and Meridian, says Bill Trudeau, majority owner of the dealership at 304 E. Sprague. Trudeau says the dealership will decide next year whether to pick up the Maxum line of sport boats and cruisers, which Olympic also sold.

Olympic Boat Centers closed its Spokane Valley dealership in September, citing falling sales due to the economy.

Trudeau says the added lines will help Trudeau's attract powerboat enthusiasts from a wide spectrum of the market.

Bayliner, for instance, is a "value line with different price points compared with Sea Ray," he says.

The Trophy brand, like Boston Whaler, appeals to anglers, Trudeau says, adding, "I think these lines will dovetail."

For now, the added boats are being housed, along with Sea Ray and Boston Whaler models at the dealership on Sprague, Trudeau says.

Trudeau says the dealership owns about 3 acres of land in Liberty Lake, and it might build additional facilities at the site, but plans to watch the economy here for a while before it decides whether to expand there.

"Sales have dropped industrywide, but we're still selling more boats than we expected," he adds.

Trudeau says the dealership here has about 16 employees, including two former Olympic Boat Centers employees.

He also is majority owner of Trudeau's Sea Ray in Portland, Ore.
