Construction of an outlet for CompUSA, a Dallas-based computer retailer, will begin this summer just north of Cavanaughs River Inn and east of Ruby Street where Ruby splits away from Division Street, says Tom Barbieri, vice president of Goodale & Barbieri Cos.


G&B, the big Spokane real estate and hospitality concern that owns the Cavanaughs motel chain, and Terranomics, of Seattle, both worked to bring CompUSA to Spokane.


Last month, workers surveyed the property, which is owned by a Los Angeles-based company called Wilton Partners North River. Now, the land is being prepared for construction of the 25,000-square-foot outlet, and Barbieri expects that construction will begin by early June.


Earlier this year, G&B acquired from the city of Spokane a triangular lot just east of where the CompUSA store will be built. The company plans to keep that 17,300-square-foot lot, and likely will use it for additional parking for Cavanaughs River Inn, Barbieri says. The parking lot will be developed at the same time as the retail project, he says.
