The Spokane Community College chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success is launching a weekly Motivational Mondays series that will focus on topics surrounding leadership and will be free and open to the public.
Oriana Landt, the community service and social events chairwoman for the SCC chapter, says the idea came from the weekly email the Jersey City, NJ-based national honor society sends to members. The email contains inspirational stories, tips, and links to training and courses provided through the organization.
“We thought we would do the same thing locally, so it’s an extension of the national program,” Landt says. “We’re going to have speakers, workshops, book reviews and other things on topics that will help not only our students but anyone in Spokane who wishes to come.”
Landt says local organizations such as SCORE, the North Idaho College-based Small Business Development Center, and area chambers of commerce are planning to bring in visiting speakers or host workshops at SCC.
However, not all Motivational Monday slots for the 2018-2019 schoolyear have been filled. Landt says the society is still looking for speakers.
“If there’s a business leader who wants to come and talk to potential employees about what they’re looking for and how to be more successful in getting the job that they want, or maybe switching careers, or any of those subjects, we’d love to have them,” she says.
The first few Motivational Mondays will focus on topics relevant to students, she says. The SCC chapter has about 100 members, Landt says, and about 940,000 members belong to 646 chapters throughout the U.S.
