Boeing Employees Credit Union will serve as the anchor tenant in a new retail building currently under construction north of Spokane, says project architect Russ Page, of Spokane-based Russell C. Page Architects PS.
“Citadel Construction is the general contractor; they’ve started construction and plan on being done at the end of summer,” Page says.
Citadel Construction Inc. is based in Spokane.
The new building, named the Newport Retail Building, will be located at 9420 N. Newport Highway at the southwest corner of the intersection of the Newport Highway and Holland Avenue. The project’s cost is $750,000, Page says.
The location is the site of a former gas station that has been removed. To the north of Newport Retail Building is the Northpointe Plaza shopping center at 10100 N. Newport Highway.
The single-story building currently being constructed includes a total of 10,500 square feet of floor space, and the BECU branch will occupy 3,000 square feet of it. BECU is currently the building’s only committed tenant.
Bob Spears of Heritage Properties Inc., and Rich Naccarato, who heads Cedar Builders Inc., are developing the project, according to Page.
BECU is based in Tukwila and employs about 1,400 people throughout its 40 financial centers in the Puget Sound area. The credit union opened two branches here in 2016 and has about 5,000 members in the Spokane area. Tom Berquist, BECU’s vice president of marketing and cooperative affairs, told the Journal last August. The credit union said it was looking for a location for a third branch.
BECU’s credit union branches here are located at 916 N. Division, in the Cataldo Square Shopping Center, and at 615 N. Sullivan, in Spokane Valley.
