Three design-build firms to compete for Convention Center expansion

December 20, 2012

Three design-build teams involving Spokane-area companies will compete for the contract to build a Spokane Convention Center exhibit hall expansion and to rehabilitate a portion of the Spokane River shoreline near the convention center.
The teams that will compete for the $60 million-plus project are Garco/ALSC/LMN, Lydig/Integrus, and YLK JV/Bernardo-Wills/tvsdesign.
Stephanie Huff, human resources and contract services administrator for the Spokane Public Facilities District, says the finalists were selected from five proposals the PFD received in response to its request for qualifications.
The PFD expects to select a design-build team in April and for work to start by early summer. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed by January 2015.
The main portion of the project will be a two-floor, 91,000-square-foot addition to the Group Health Exhibit Hall. The addition, which will be connect to the north side of the exhibit hall, will include about 25,000 square feet of meeting space and 18,000 square feet of exhibition space. The 10,000-square-foot former C.I. Shenanigans restaurant building will be demolished to make room for the project.
