The large Spokane-based physician group owned by the Providence ministry has changed its name to Providence Medical Group.

Providence says the new name—the group formerly was known as Providence Physician Services—reflects the growth in the number of its physicians and mid-level providers in the Inland Northwest, as well in its technology infrastructure.

Providence Medical Group has more than 160 physicians that represent 35 medical specialties at 22 clinics in the area. It says it's in the process of developing new models of care in an effort to create a more coordinated delivery of care to its patients between Providence providers.

The name change already is effective on Providence's websites and advertising, but changes to signage and other materials will occur gradually over the next year, Providence says.
