Clearwater in line for city lift station job

Contractor bids $580,000 for sewer system project in northwest part of city

April 22, 2010
Jeanne Gustafson

Clearwater Construction & Management LLC, of Spokane, has submitted an apparent low bid of $580,000 for a city of Spokane contract to replace a sewage lift station northwest of Spokane.

The current lift station, which is located near the intersection of Rifle Club Road and Aubrey L. White Parkway, is aging and will be replaced with a new lift station that can be expanded in the future as demand grows, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.

A lift station is placed in the sewer system where the wastewater is pumped to a higher elevation so gravity can be used to bring the wastewater to a treatment plant.

Work is expected to begin in early May and to be completed around the middle of July. It follows a project being completed by MDM Construction Inc., of Hayden, Idaho, which won a $900,000 city of Spokane contract earlier this year to replace plastic sewer pipes between Rifle Club Road and the entrance to the Bowl and Pitcher campground with 10-inch and 12-inch iron pipes. That work is expected to be completed in May, Deasy says.
