The Spokane Home Builders Association says it's bringing back its Showcase of Homes with a single-site event that will feature homes designed to meet the trade group's environmentally friendly Built Green construction standards.
The event will be held June 18-27 in the River District, in Liberty Lake. The River District is a 600-plus-acre mixed-use development north of Interstate 90 and south of the Spokane River. The Showcase of Homes site is on Meyers Avenue at the west end of the development. The site is just northwest of Half Moon Park, which is on the north side of Indiana Avenue, near Holl Boulevard.
Admission to the Showcase of Homes will be $8 for adults. Children 12 and under will be admitted free, says Katherine Morgan, SHBA's marketing and events director. The association also is planning a senior day in which admissions for senior citizens will be discounted to $5, she says.
The association expects more than 6,000 people to attend the event.
The Showcase of Homes will include six homes built by five contractors to meet Built Green ratings ranging from three stars to its highest rating of five stars, Morgan says.
Built Green is a conservation-minded residential building program that the Spokane Home Builders Association developed in partnership with public and private sponsors throughout the Inland Northwest. The program promotes energy efficiency, indoor air quality, ecosystem protection, water conservation, and use of "green" building materials.
Builders participating in the home show include George H. White Inc., of Liberty Lake; Brent Peterson Construction Inc., of Greenacres; Victory Homes, of Post Falls; and Greenstone Construction LLC, of Liberty Lake.
Tim Ayers, of Builders Etc. Inc., of Spokane, will be the general contractor on a special home to be built with labor and materials donated by SHBA members, Morgan says. Proceeds from the sale of that home will support the association's Built Green programs and community-service projects, she says.
Prices for homes in the Showcase are expected to range from $250,000 to $325,000, Morgan says.
The family-friendly event will include educational programs and speakers, and vendors of "green" products, she says. Spokane-based Avista Corp. and Energy Star, a federal energy-conservation program, are sponsoring the event.
The Showcase of Homes will be SHBA's first single-site event since 2004, after which the association began holding a scattered-site annual Fall Festival of Homes. The 2004 Showcase of Homes was held at the Riverbluff Ranch northwest of the Wandermere Golf Course. Morgan says SHBA will continue holding its Fall Festival of Homes, and this year will mark the 200th home to be featured in the festival.
