Five Paula Dillon Mays clinics change hands

July 29, 2021

A group of Spokane-based physical therapy clinics has changed hands.

Bryce Schwendiman acquired all five Spokane-area locations of Paula Dillon Mays Physical Therapy clinics in May. Schwendiman has been a physical therapist at the company’s South Hill location for 20 years.

“Paula’s been talking about retiring for a number of years, and she always wanted to sell it to an employee,” Schwendiman says. “She works out of the South Hill office, so we’d had numerous conversations about purchasing the business. We started the process back before COVID, and then COVID hit, and that put everything on hold for a while.”

Schwendiman, age 54, says former owner Paula Dillon Mays initially hoped to sell each physical therapy office to an employee, but found it easier to sell all five to Schwendiman.

When Schwendiman bought the clinics, he established a new business entity called A & B Physical Therapy PLLC, through which the five clinics operate under discrete names.

South Hill Physical Therapy is located at 1403 S. Grand Blvd.; Physical Therapy North is at 3017 E. Francis; Division Street Physical Therapy is located at 12 E. Rowan; Airway Heights Physical Therapy is at 9725 W. Sunset, in Airway Heights; and Valley Physical Therapy is located at 213 S. University Road, in Spokane Valley.

Schwendiman says the Airway Heights clinic is moving next month to a new space at 12622 W. Sunset Highway, about two miles west of its current location.

Currently, 37 employees work at the clinics. Schwendiman says the ownership transition has taken up most of his attention, but the company plans to hire for a few positions.
