Baker Construction erects tire outlet in North Idaho

7,000-square-foot Hayden building with three service bays to be done by June 1

Baker Construction & Development, Inc., of Spokane, is building a 7,000-square-foot Discount Tire Co. store in Hayden, Idaho. A building permit application filed with the city of Hayden puts the value of the construction project at $900,000.

The building will include three service bays, space for inventory, and a product showroom, says Lucas Holmquist, a project manager for Baker Construction. The project site is located at 8120 N. Cornerstone Drive and is on the west side of U.S. 95. It's about a block north of Prairie Avenue, across U.S. 95 from the Prairie Shopping Center.

Work on the project started in October and is expected to be completed by June 1, Holmquist says. Scotsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire designed the project in-house, he says. Halle Properties LLC, also of Scottsdale, will own the building, the permit application says.

Discount Tire outlets typically have seven to 12 employees, the independent tire and wheel retailer's Web site says.

Baker Construction also was the contractor on the construction of recently completed Discount Tire buildings in Wenatchee and Sequim, Wash. Those structures were nearly identical in design to the Hayden project, Holmquist says.

The Hayden store will be the first Discount Tire outlet in Idaho. The chain operates more than 725 outlets in 21 states, its Web site says. Of those, 28 stores are in Washington, including two here, at 8120 N. Division and 9519 E. Sprague.
