State accountants group to meet here June 16-18

June 2, 2011

The Washington Association of Accountants' annual convention is slated for June 16-18 at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park, at 303 W. North River Drive, near downtown Spokane. The WAA's Spokane chapter will host this year's event.

Jane Kantor, WAA's past executive director, says about 50 of the association's 350 members are expected to attend the convention.

The event comes to Spokane about once every four years and has been held continuously since 1971, Kantor says. The three other Washington state chapters are all located in the Puget Sound area on the west side of the state, Kantor says.

The convention provides opportunity for concentrated professional education in accounting. Eight hours of continuing education credit will be offered through a course titled IRS Audits, Appeals and Collections: Successful Strategies. Kantor says the course, which will be held on June 17, is open to nonmembers of the WAA. A full description of the course is available on the organization's website at www.waa.org.
