Resource fair for Inland Northwest seniors set for next week in Spokane Valley
Free event designed to provide information on services for seniorsApril 24th, 2014
A free Senior Empowerment Resource Fair that’s planned in the Spokane Valley next week will seek to help Inland Northwest seniors and relatives of seniors gain more knowledge about the various aging-related services available to them here.
The fair will be held Friday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the CenterPlace Regional Event Center, at 2426 N. Discovery Place, just northwest of the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Mirabeau Parkway.
“The goal of the event is to inform seniors and their families about the services and resources that are available in Spokane Valley and regionwide,” said Karen Clark-Parson, a senior specialist with the city of Spokane Valley, in a press release about the event.
Parson noted that the senior center often is the first contact point when looking for senior-focused housing, financial, and grief-counseling services. This fair is intended to bring all of those resources together in one place, the release said.
The resource fair is designed to provide answers to questions seniors or their families have about any aspect of their lives, including those related to topics such as hospice care, social work services, or fun physical or creative activities for seniors.
This year’s resource fair will have 54 vendors, all willing to converse with the public and answer questions, the news press release said.
Among those attending, it said, will be representatives of Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington and senior health insurance advisers who will be available to help seniors choose the best Medicare plan to suit their needs.
The fair also will include informational booths sponsored by retirement and assisted-living facilities, in-home care agencies, and other entities that cater to specific senior interests, needs, and lifestyles.
