Poe Asphalt Paving gets subcontract for big runway rehabilitation at SIA

July 30, 2009
Jeanne Gustafson

Poe Asphalt Paving Inc., of Post Falls, has been awarded a $5.5 million subcontract to complete asphalt repaving Spokane International Airport's runway rehabilitation project.

The company is a subcontractor under Acme Concrete Paving Inc., which was awarded a $30.7 million contract for a 19-month SIA project to repave its main runway and its two supporting taxiways, and to extend them by 2,000 feet.

In addition to extending the airport's main runway and the two parallel taxiways on either side, the overall project will include correcting the gradient of the runway and repaving another 7,000 feet of the current 9,000-foot runway, says SIA spokesman Todd Woodard.

Poe Asphalt began its portion of that work this month, which entails overlaying two-thirds of the main runway with 60,000 tons of hot-mix asphalt.

Poe's work on the project will continue into next year, says Josh Smith, a company spokesman.

Poe Asphalt has been in business since 1953 and has offices Post Falls, Idaho, and Clarkston, Wash.
