Lazy Bones Barbecue opens in former Wheat Montana space
Lazy Bones Barbecue, a new barbecue-style eatery, has opened in an about 2,600-square-foot space at 4334 S. Regal that formerly housed a Wheat Montana Farms Inc. outlet, says John Fletcher, who owns Lazy Bones through a Spokane company called Wild Salad Inc.
Fletcher says the restaurant, which is open daily for lunch and dinner, has an eclectic menu that showcases traditional barbecue cooking and includes items such as a grilled salmon sandwich. Barbecued chicken, ribs, and hamburgers also are available, and the eatery uses three different sauces that it makes from scratch, says Fletcher.
Lazy Bones Barbecue, which employs 17 people, also has beer and wine available for purchase.
The restaurant can seat around 65 people and offers takeout service, Fletcher says, adding that customers can order individual or family-style portions.
Fletcher says the leased space was remodeled to a degree, with work focused mostly on the kitchen and installation of a fire-suppression system. He says he didn't hire a general contractor for the project, but contracted out some work for specific jobs during the renovation process.
Microbrewery to open here later this year
A new Spokane beer-making operation, headed up by brothers Brad and Bruce Budge and called Budge Brothers Brewery, plans to begin producing six different styles of beer here by late summer or early fall, says Brad Budge.
He says the microbrew business, which he owns with his mother, Karen, has purchased from a defunct Portland brewery a brewing setup capable of making 217-gallon batches of beer.
The business is leasing about 700 square feet of space from the Mountain Dome Winery, at 16315 E. Temple, and is waiting for the federal Tax & Trade Bureau to approve its application for a brewery operating permit, says Budge.
The new venture also is negotiating contracts to secure the hops necessary for beer production, and wants to finalize a brand logo before it begins operating, he says.
Initially, Budge Brothers plans to offer its beer in kegs and 22-ounce bottles, says Budge.
He says the business will employ only family members at first.
Small accounting firm here plans to relocate
B&B Business Services LLC, a home-based business that specializes in accounting, tax, and payroll services, plans to move its operations into a house at 3502 E. Fifth from smaller quarters at 4107 E. 12th, says Andy Anderson, who owns the business with Barbara Bossuyt.
Anderson says the business currently operates in a 1,000-square-foot basement. The move, which is expected to be completed next month, will double B&B's available working space, he says. Renovation work to the new space is under way and includes installing computers and telephone lines, plus electrical work, he says.
B&B Business Services has operated here for 15 years and has four full-time employees and one part-time employee, says Anderson.
