Elk owners plan restaurant on South Hill

February 26, 1997
Emily Brandler

A group that owns three restaurants in the Spokane area, including the Elk Public House, in Brownes Addition, say they plan to open a new eatery on the South Hill next year.

Construction of the new, freestanding 4,000-square-foot restaurant, to be located at the southeast corner of 57th Avenue and Mount Vernon in the Regal Plaza shopping center, is expected to start in about a month, says John Grollmus, who will own the eatery with Brad Fosseen and Jeff Meagher. The three men also own the Moon Time restaurant in Coeur dAlene, and The Porch Public House, in Hayden Lake, as well as the Elk. Grollmus says they hope to open the South Hill restaurant by June, and will lease the building from Frank DeLis.

DeLis, who is developing the project through a Spokane company called Julfrakids LLC, says the building is expected to take about four months to complete. The estimated cost of the project is $2 million, he says. Vandervert Construction Inc. is the contractor and Russell Page Architects did the design.

Grollmus says the restaurant likely will employ about 25 workers. He says it hasnt been given a name yet, but it will have a pub theme.
