Bouten doing $30 million hospital job in Oregon

February 26, 1997

Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, is well under way on a $30 million expansion and renovation project at Holy Rosary Medical Center, in Ontario, Ore., near the Idaho-Oregon border.

The two-phase project will include the construction of a 110,000-square-foot, three-story addition that will house outpatient services and other hospital departments and a 10,000-square-foot building to house all of the medical centers boilers, chillers, and major electrical equipment, says Bouten Construction President Bill Bouten.

Work on the first phase of the project, the central plant building to house mechanical systems, started in March and will be done next spring, he says. The building is being constructed across the street from the medical center and will be connected to the main facility via underground utility tunnels.

The second phase of the project is scheduled to start next spring and is expected to be done in late 2001. It will include the large addition that will accommodate the hospitals emergency department and the outpatient surgery, oncology, and respiratory-therapy departments, as well as obstetrics, administration, facilities, central supply, and medical records. After those departments expand and relocate, the current hospital structure also will undergo some renovation to create a new surgical department and to connect corridors in the old and new parts of the hospital, Bouten says.

In addition to being named the general contractor, Bouten Construction provided preconstruction services, such as value engineering, cost estimating, scheduling, and conducting constructability reviews.

Bouten Construction has done numerous other hospital, clinic, and doctors office projects in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
