Senior housing complex is being built in Valley

Development on Sprague will include 25 living units, is set to open by year-end

February 26, 1997
Linn Parish

National Church Residences, a Columbus, Ohio-based nonprofit provider of housing for low-income seniors, is developing a 25-unit apartment complex for such residents in the Spokane Valley, its second such complex here.

White Water Creek Inc., a Hayden, Idaho-based general contractor, broke ground on the project earlier this month and expects to complete it by year-end, says Maryann Prescott, co-owner of White Water.

She says National Church Residences plans to build another 25-unit low-income senior apartment complex in the Valley next year, but she declines for now to disclose further plans for the project.

The complex thats under way now, to be called Sprague Senior Housing, is being built on about two acres of land at 14303 E. Sprague, Prescott says. It will include four single-story buildings ranging in size from a five-unit, 4,900-square-foot structure to an eight-unit, 6,200-square-foot facility.

The structures will house a mix of 700-square-foot, one-bedroom living units and 900-square-foot, two-bedroom units.

Building permits issued by Spokane County put the projects estimated value at about $1.5 million.

Prescott says the living units will be available to low-income and very low-income tenants with at least one family member who is 55 years old or older.

The planned buildings are similar in design to those constructed in the recently completed East Valley Crossing senior-apartment complex, which National Church Residences developed and had White Water Creek build at 16010 E. Valleyway. That seven-building, 50-unit complex opened earlier this month.

Zeck Butler Architects PS, of Spokane, designed both that complex and the one that White Water is constructing now.

Sprague Senior Housing will be the fifth apartment complex that White Water has constructed for National Church Residences.
