Three more stores on plan for Valley Mall strip center

Housewares, clothing, sporting goods retailers named in county files

A proposed retail strip center west of the Spokane Valley Mall might house T.J. Maxx, Sportsmans Warehouse, and Linens n Things outlets, according to a grading-permit application that Salt Lake City-based mall owner JP Realty Inc. has filed with Spokane County.

The conceptual plans described in the application call for each of those retailers to occupy between 20,000 and 40,000 square feet of space apiece in the center, says Jeff Forry, a senior building technician with Spokane County.

The permit would allow JP Realty to prepare the site for the center, which would be located at the southeast corner of Evergreen Road and Indiana Avenue. JP Realty officials declined to comment on the plans.

The application also lists as a tenant Old Navy, a division of San Francisco-based Gap Inc. that announced plans last week to open a 20,000-square-foot store in the planned strip center this coming September.

Aaron Klennert, Spokane Valley Malls assistant manager, says he anticipates that four stores will open in the planned 100,000-square-foot strip center by Christmas, but declines to discuss potential tenants.

Sportsmans Warehouse is a Midvale, Utah, company that sells hunting, camping, and fishing gear in stores in Utah and southern Idaho. A representative of Sportsmans Warehouse says the company hasnt signed a lease for a store in Spokane yet, and declined to comment on whether it hopes to.

T.J. Maxx spokeswoman Renee Katziff says a list of new stores that she has doesnt include any outlets planned in Washington. T.J. Maxx, which is a division of the TJX Co. of Framingham, Mass., sells clothing at discount prices and has about 630 stores nationwide, including one at Northpointe Plaza on Spokanes North Side.

Its stores typically have about 29,000 square feet of space.

Linens n Things Inc., of Clifton, N.J., didnt respond to requests for comment about any plans it might have for additional stores here. The company, which operates about 280 stores, opened a store at Northpointe Plaza last year. Linens n Things stores have an average of 35,000 square feet of space and sell linens, housewares, and home accessories, the companys Web site says.
