Washington state employers added 1,200 jobs during the 12 months ending in April, preliminary data from the Washington state Employment Security Department shows.
For the month of April, however, the state’s total job count decreased by 5,800 jobs, continuing what has become a trend so far in 2025.
“The count of jobs in Washington has dropped for three consecutive months,” says Anneliese Vance-Sherman, chief labor economist at the Employment Security Department, in a press release.
The state’s unemployment rate came in at 4.4% in April—the same as the month prior and down from 4.6% in April 2024. For comparison, the U.S. unemployment rate was 4.2% in April.
County-level data for April is expected to be released later this month.
