Kalispel Golf & Country Club marketed to casino 'rewards' members

Northern Quest introduces exclusive membership

March 24, 2016

Northern Quest Resort & Casino, in Airway Heights, has begun marketing its recently acquired Kalispel Golf & Country Club to casino patrons who belong to its Camas Rewards program.

Specifically, the West Plains casino is offering exclusive promotional packages to the rewards-club members that include golf at the course, which is located at 2010 W. Waikiki Road on Spokane’s North Side, and opened for play earlier this month.

In December, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians completed its $3 million purchase of the former Spokane Country Club and changed its name to the Kalispel Golf & Country Club.

Four women, who were former club members, prevailed over the Spokane Country Club in court in 2013 when they alleged the club discriminated against them by saving the best tee times for men and not allowing women in certain areas of its restaurant.

After four years of litigation, the Spokane Country Club filed to reorganize its debts through Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The Kalispel Tribe’s $3 million purchase of the course also includes paying off nearly $2 million in legal fees and judgments owed to the women and their attorney, Mary Schultz, court records say.

Julie Holland, public relations director at Northern Quest, says recent warm temperatures allowed for front-nine golf play at the course during the first week of March.

Full rounds of play commenced March 18, she says.

Northern Quest began offering the promotional golf packages to its Camas Rewards members via email on March 15, Holland says.

The email says rewards-club members are eligible to receive unlimited access to preferred tee times at the 117-year-old golf club. Camas members who join the club by April 30 also receive their first month of club dues for free, earn Camas Rewards points on the initiation fee, and receive a $250 Kalispel Golf & Country Club credit, says the email.

Camas Rewards are used to track casino play and resort spending. Points are earned for all rated play on slot machines, table games, poker, and keno. Points also can be accumulated in the hotel, spa and salon, participating restaurants, the box office, and gift shops.

Shuttle service is available for patrons staying at the resort and casino, which is 14 miles from the golf and country club.

Holland says construction work is still taking place at the country club. The club’s marquee restaurant, the 1898 Public House, is scheduled to be completed next month for an April 22 opening.

The Kalispel Grill, which serves breakfast and lunch, recently opened to members, Holland says.

The golf and country club currently has 250 members who formerly were members of the Spokane Country Club. Holland says the golf and country club would like to add at least 100 more members.
