Level 3 Communications grows its network in Spokane, Cd'A region

Company provides service to nearly 300 buildings

August 13, 2015

Level 3 Communications LLC has expanded its communications network to nearly 300 buildings in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene markets, says Derrick Green, who manages the Spokane office for the Broomfield, Colo.-based company.

“In the last two years we’ve brought on 45 buildings per year,” Green says. “I’m really proud of the way the company has been able to expand in our current marketplace.”

The company builds and installs its own fiber communication lines for businesses. Level 3 constructs its own fiber so it can more effectively protect and secure data, video, and voice communications for its customers, Green says.

Level 3 now has 276 “on-net buildings,” meaning that many structures across Spokane and Coeur d’Alene now are on the company’s fiber network.

Level 3’s local offices are at 601 W. Main downtown. Green says the company’s 16 employees here constitute a customer service, provisional, and sales team. Green says Level 3 now has 41,000 on-net buildings worldwide in 500 markets in more than 60 countries.

Green says Level 3’s largest markets in the Pacific Northwest are here, Seattle, Portland, and Boise. The company has established approximately 300 miles of its fiber network in the Spokane area. Two years ago, the company had about 220 miles of fiber network.

Green declines to disclose the companies that Level 3 provides secured service to in the Spokane area. He did say, however, that Level 3 provides fiber lines to many of the largest financial institutions in Spokane and dozens of health care facilities.
