Ambassadors reports loss for quarter, year

.

February 5, 2014
Staff Report

Ambassadors Group Inc., the Spokane-based student-travel provider, posted this afternoon a fourth-quarter net loss of $5.5 million, or 32 cents a diluted share, compared with a loss of $10 million, or 58 cents a share, in the year-earlier quarter.

The company traveled about 310 delegates in the quarter, up from about 160 in the year-earlier period.

For the full year, however, the company reported a net loss of $7.1 million, or 42 cents a share, compared with net income of $1.7 million, or 10 cents a share, in 2012.

For the entire year, the company traveled about 18,250 delegates, down nearly 3,000 people from the 2012 volume.

Despite the losses, Ambassadors interim CEO Anthony Dombrowik said in a press release, “We are making headway in our turnaround efforts,” adding that, “we made solid progress in 2013, and our results were in line with our financial guidance for the year.”
