Avista Corp. announced this morning that it has filed requests to raise rates for Washington state natural gas customers by 9.4 percent and for electric customers in the state by 2.1 percent.
The Spokane-based utility is asking the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to make the higher rates effective Nov. 1.
The increase in natural gas rates would raise the monthly bill for a typical residential customer using 68 therms by $5.44, to $63.07, if approved. The increase would give Avista a $13.7 million increase in revenue.
The electricity rate increase, if approved, would increase the monthly bill for a customer using 989 kilowatt-hours by $1.67 a month, to $81.35, and increase the company's annual revenue by $4.2 million.
In Washington, Avista currently has about 213,000 residential and small-farm customers and about 150,000 natural-gas customers.
