Schimmels to get $1 million job to resurface Lidgerwood

Work to start next month on street along east side of Holy Family Hospital

March 1, 2012

The City of Spokane expects soon to award a $1 million project contract to Schimmels Construction Inc., of Spokane, to resurface a half-mile stretch of north Lidgerwood Street and portions of some surrounding residential streets.

The section of Lidgerwood to undergo a complete curb-to-curb rehabilitation extends between Francis and North avenues, and is located two blocks east of north Division Street.

The project is being funded with proceeds from the city's 10-year street bond, and work is expected to begin in April and to be completed in late June or early July, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.

Four blocks of Lidgerwood where construction is to take place border the east side of the Providence Holy Family Hospital campus, but access to the hospital's emergency entrance will remain open throughout the project, Deasy says.

The surrounding residential streets that also are included as part of the resurfacing project include Addison Street between Rowan and Columbia avenues; Columbia Avenue between Lidgerwood and a cul-de-sac where Columbia meets Garry Middle School; Standard Street between North and Columbia; and Joseph and Nebraska avenues between Lidgerwood and Cincinnati Street.

During construction, traffic traveling north or south on Lidgerwood is to be detoured to Division or Addison streets, with the exception of the emergency room entrance at Holy Family, Deasy says.

Motorists needing to access the emergency entrance or other entrances at the hospital will be detoured from Lidgerwood via Central or Rowan avenues.
