Waterford on South Hill, the big retirement complex owned and operated by Touchmark Living Centers Inc., of Beaverton, Ore., says it will change its name later this year to Touchmark on South Hill.
Also, it says it is nearing completion of a big interior and exterior remodel that it launched more than a year ago. That project has included improvements to amenities such as its on-campus coffee shop and convenience store, as well as the addition of a fitness studio and a sports lounge.
Touchmark says it has supported two brand namesWaterford and Touchmarkfor decades and named its first six retirement complexes Waterford. The company said, however, that the name no longer is as unique as it once was. As the company turned 30, it says its senior management team, with input and support from Waterford executive directors, decided to drop the Waterford name and place all of its properties and affiliates under the Touchmark brand.
The name change will be phased in throughout the year.
The Waterford opened in 1991 and is located at the southeast corner of 29th Avenue and Pittsburg Street. The complex includes a more than 300,000-square-foot main building that includes independent and assisted-living units, as well as skilled-nursing units, and a total of 60 nearby cottages. It also has a group of 10 cottages in another development, Touchmark at Grapetree, north of Pinecrest Road, about two blocks north of 29th Avenue.
Lydig Construction Inc., of Spokane, has been the general contractor on the multimillion-dollar remodel project, which has included new interior flooring, paint, and finishes in the main building, and new siding and roofing on the building's exterior, plus other upgrades to all of the facility's common areas.
