City alters Second Ave. construction schedule

March 24, 2011

The city of Spokane has revised slightly the construction schedule for the street rehabilitation work being performed downtown on Second Avenue, which began earlier this month.

The city had said it planned to stagger construction into three different phases, starting this month between Division and Arthur streets. It then planned to start work between Division and Browne in early May, and construction between Browne and Howard was to begin at the end of June. The city also had said all work would be finished in September.

City spokeswoman Ann Deasy says that schedule has been changed from three phases to two phases of work. Work on the section of Second between Arthur and Division, which began on March 14, still is expected to be completed in May.

The second leg of construction is set to begin that month and will combine the rest of the work into a single phase that will include a section of Second between Division and Howard. That entire project now is expected to be finished in July, Deasy says.

She says Division will remain open for both Bloomsday and Hoopfest.

Spokane Rock Products Inc. is the general contractor for the about $2.5 million project.
