Sally Guthrie, a co-owner of Famous Joe’s Vendor Emporium, says the goal she shares with her business partners ultimately is to fill the 12,000 square feet of space Famous Joe’s is leasing at 9126 E. Sprague, in Spokane Valley.

Since the venue’s opening last month, that goal may not be far off.

“We’ve already got more than 100 vendors,” says Guthrie, who owns and operates the business with her son, Kessler Guthrie and his wife, Courtney Schuerman.

Vendors pay to lease space to the owners to sell their wares. Rental space sizes range from 4 feet by 6 feet to 10 feet by 13 feet, with monthly rents ranging from $2.50 to $3 per square foot, she says.

“Vintage items, artists, lots of crafters, and man cave décor,” are among the most prominent tenants to date, she says. “The man cave items include beer signs, bar ware, and lots and lots of sporting goods.”

Famous Joes charges 10% on vendor sales. The company uses a vendor portal that shows real time sales, she says.

Guthrie also owns and operates Flamin’ Joe’s restaurants, at 7015 N. Division, on the North Side, and at 11618 E. Sprague, in Spokane Valley.

She hatched the concept for Famous Joe’s with the other business partners.

“We’re probably all yard sale aficionados, and my son is a major flipper,” Guthrie says. “We recycle, upcycle ... you name it.”

Prior to starting Famous Joe’s, the trio leased vendor space at GreenAcres Vendor Mall, at 16814 E. Sprague, in Spokane Valley. Guthrie says GreenAcres Vendor Mall owners were instrumental in helping them get their business going.

Hours of operation are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. The store will be open on Thanksgiving with extended operating hours on Black Friday, she says.
