Los Angeles-based Golden West Packaging Group LLC has acquired packaging manufacturer Allpak Container LLC, which has operations in Cheney and Renton, Wash.

Golden West CEO Steve Strickland says the company completed the acquisition March 6. He declines to disclose terms of the transaction.

“The purpose of the acquisition is to extend Golden West’s strategy of acquiring well-established packaging companies and developing them into high performers,” says Strickland.

Allpak currently employs 39 people at its Cheney plant and 93 in Renton.

Both facilities remain open following the acquisition, and each is considered to be well equipped and up to date, he asserts.

“The primary change will be leveraging Golden West’s sales expertise to drive additional production through the plants,” he says. “AllPak and Golden West leaders will continually review the operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.”

Allpak Container designs and manufactures high-end consumer and industrial packaging for more than 450 customers in agriculture, beauty, beverage, commerce, food, health, industrial, recreation, and wine and spirits markets.

The company serves customers in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, California, and British Columbia from its Cheney and Renton facilities.

The facilities offer large scale die-cut, full-color, customizable printing capabilities.

In 2006, Allpak bought its 115,000-square-foot facility in Cheney, which is located at 1500 W. First and previously housed a Honeywell Electronic Materials plant.

Two years later, the city of Cheney purchased about half of the nearby land to create the Cheney Research and Industrial Park, which it now co-owns with privately-held AE Cheney Land LLC, an affiliate of Allpak.

In recent years, the city of Cheney and the manufacturer have worked under a public-private partnership to develop the park, which is located at the southwest corner of the city and on the north side of state Route 904, or First Street, near its intersection with Mullinix Road.

Golden West Packaging Group is a holding company for packaging businesses that was formed in 2017 by New York private investment firm Lindsay Goldberg. With the Allpak acquisition, Golden West will have nine manufacturing plants.

The transaction represents Golden West’s third during the past two years.
