Rainman sets move to new, bigger quarters

Owners buy building on Spokane's North Side

January 14, 2010
David Cole

The owners of Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters, of Spokane, say they have purchased a building on the city's North Side and plan to move the business there to give it more room to grow.

Rick Garrett, who owns Rainman with his wife, Chris, says the couple has bought a 9,800-square-foot building at 205 E. Ermina, just east of the Division-Ruby couplet, for the business. The structure will house Rainman's showroom, warehouse, and office areas, Garrett says. The space is being remodeled, and the new location should open late next month.

The business currently is located at 2816 N. Madelia, in 7,600 square feet of leased floor space. The Garretts purchased the business in 2007 from Dusty Henderson. It employs 13 people.

The remodeling project at the building on Ermina is being done by Chris Garrett's general contracting company, C. Garrett Inc., of Spokane. The project is extensive and will cost tens of thousands of dollars, Rick Garrett says.

Rainman sells, installs, and services rain gutters and leaf and needle roof-protection products for residential and commercial buildings. It also offers heat cable used to keep water in gutters flowing away from a home during cold weather.

Rick Garrett says Rainman has grown despite the poor economy, taking on about 10 percent more jobs last year compared with 2008.

Matthew Byrd, of Cornerstone Property Advisors LLC, of Spokane, handled the transaction. The property on Ermina was owned by Byrd's parents, Vern and Mary Byrd, of Spokane.
