Shamrock Paving wins two projects here worth a combined $1 million

September 17, 2009
Jeanne Gustafson

Shamrock Paving Co., of Spokane, has won contracts for two paving projects here with a combined value of just under $1 million.

One of the projects is a paving job for Spokane International Airport, for which Shamrock bid $568,000. The other is a resurfacing job for Spokane County on a stretch of Five Mile Road, for which Shamrock bid $389,000.

The SIA project involves refurbishing two sections of Airport Drive that have suffered deterioration because of Spokane's harsh winters, says Teresa Foster Eckard, an SIA project manager. The airport has issued a notice of award to Shamrock, and hopes the project will be completed in mid-October, she says.

In the project, Shamrock will do crack sealing, patching, and asphalt paving on two sections of the roadway, which is the main arterial that leads into and out of the airport, as well as installing two solar-powered stop sign flashing beacon assemblies. Eckard says no more than one lane of Airport Drive will be closed at any time during the project.

Meanwhile, the county project involves resurfacing and repairing pavement on a 1.4-mile stretch of Five Mile Road between Berridae and Waikiki roads, Spokane County contract engineer Chad Coles says. The project, slated for this fall, is expected to take up to a month to complete and will require that section of Five Mile to be closed during much of the project, causing lengthy detours for some motorists, Coles says.
