Taco-tequila bar planned next to Elk eatery in Browne's Addition

September 3, 2009
David Cole

The owners of four Spokane-Coeur d'Alene area restaurants, including The Elk Public House, in Browne's Addition, are planning to open a fifth eatery—this one a taco and tequila bar called El Que, says Marshall Powell, who will manage it.

He says they hope to open the restaurant and bar in mid-October, at 141 S. Cannon, and it will share a kitchen with The Elk. El Que will occupy about 550 square feet of leased space, he says.

It will have a full bar, but will focus on tequila drinks and Mexican beers. The menu isn't finalized, but will emphasize tacos and tamales, Powell says. Plans call for the restaurant and bar to be open initially just in the evenings, starting at 4 p.m., but for those hours to be expanded later, he says.

El Que will share some employees with The Elk, but a few more may need to be hired, he says.

He says some very minimal remodeling work will be necessary to open the establishment.

The Elk's owners, Brad Fosseen, Jeff Meagher, and John Grollmus, also own The Two Seven Public House, at 2727 S. Mount Vernon, on Spokane's South Hill; The Moon Time, at 1602 Sherman, in Coeur d'Alene; and The Porch Public House, at 1658 E. Miles, in Hayden Lake. Powell manages both The Elk and The Two Seven, he says.
