NAI Black joins marketing program for selling troubled real estate assets

March 26, 2009

NAI Black, the Spokane-based commercial real estate brokerage and property-management company, says it has begun participating in an accelerated marketing program created by Princeton, N.J.-based NAI Global to help property owners and financial institutions dispose of troubled real estate assets.

The program, called Commercial Property PowerSale, gives property owners the option of offering their problem assets for sale via a series of live online auctions, sealed bids, or a combination of the two formats. To spread the word about the available properties, NAI Global says it uses "an aggressive marketing campaign that includes focused print, broadcast, and electronic advertising, and a direct-to-buyer outreach to more than 175,000 active buyers."

Jeff K. Johnson, NAI Black president and business director, says the program "will give national exposure to Spokane-area properties whose owners want and need the shortest sale cycle possible."

The program is open to both private and institutional owners and will include the sale of both commercial real estate equity and loans. Sellers may submit an individual asset or an entire portfolio, and property types eligible for the program include everything from office, industrial, retail, hospitality, and multifamily properties, to residential subdivisions and land for development. An NAI team will evaluate each property and guide the seller through the marketing and selling process.

NAI Black, founded in 1958 as James S. Black & Co., aligned with Tomlinson Realtors 14 years ago to form the Tomlinson Black Group of Cos. It rebranded itself about a year and a half ago, forming an alliance with NAI Global, a network of independent commercial real estate service firms that claims to be one of the world's largest commercial real estate service providers. The NAI Global network includes 5,000 commercial real estate professionals and 325 offices in more than 55 countries.

NAI Black's main offices are located in the James S. Black Building, at 107 S. Howard. The company employs about 63 people including about 25 commercial brokers.
