M.J. Takisaki Inc., of Seattle, has been awarded two contracts totaling about $1.26 million for work to build an addition at a youth center at Fairchild Air Force Base and to replace electrical service and lighting at a separate base facility.
Hal Ophus, Takisaki's construction manager for Spokane, says the company is building a 3,000-square-foot addition for a base youth center. The youth center currently has about 12,000 square feet of floor space, but more space is needed, he says.
The contract for that addition is for $725,000. Site work already has begun, and the work is expected to be completed by March, Ophus says.
In the other project, Takisaki will replace electrical service and lighting in a 137,000-square-foot building at the base, he says. That contract was for $530,000, and the work is expected to be completed by April, he says.
C.H. Guernsey & Co., of Oklahoma City, Okla., designed both projects, he says.
Takisaki has been awarded contracts for several other projects here recently as it tries to develop a presence, including a $1.5 million job to renovate the tower of the Spokane County Courthouse. Also, it was awarded a $1.7 million contract to renovate four state-owned cottages at Lakeland Village, in Medical Lake, a residential complex for people with developmental disabilities, and it was general contractor for the Southside Family Aquatic Center construction completed by Spokane County this past summer.
