Smith+Malek expands into downtown Spokane

Coeur d'Alene law practice office here is its first outside of Idaho

June 17, 2021

Coeur d’Alene-based Smith+Malek has opened a new Spokane office in the Bank of America Financial Center downtown.

The law firm, which focuses on real estate, business, and health care law, along with commercial litigation, now has three offices and 23 employees, says Peter Smith IV, co-owner and founding attorney.

“We have attorneys who live in Washington. We have clients who are based out of Washington,” says Smith. “We do a fair amount of work out of Washington, and we thought having a home base in Spokane made a lot of sense for those attorneys and our clients.”

The firm’s flagship office is located at 601 E. Front, in Coeur d’Alene, he says. The company also has an office in Boise.

Mischelle Fulgham, a litigator with three decades of experience, will be Smith+Malek’s most senior attorney at the new Spokane office, says Smith.

Including Fulgham, four attorneys and one support staff member will be based out of the new office, he adds.

Fulgham joined the firm in February. Her practice areas include complex litigation, real estate, land use and development, and breach-of-contract claims.

She practices in both Washington and Idaho, Smith adds.

“We’re thrilled that Mischelle has chosen to bring her years of experience and incredible network to grow our practice into Eastern Washington and beyond,” he says.

The law firm has leased 3,600 square feet of office space in the BofA Building, which is located at 601 W. Main.

Mike Livingston and Jamie Moesges, both of Kiemle Hagood, and Jared Smith and Mike Sharapata, of JLL, handled the transaction.

Smith+Malek was founded as a business law firm in 2015 by Smith and Luke Malek.
