Retail strip center to rise at Wandermere

Vandervert-led company expects to start final phase of complex this summer

February 26, 1997

A company headed by Spokane developer Dick Vandervert plans to build additional retail space at its Wandermere Village Shopping Center on the east side of U.S. 395 in the Wandermere area.

The company, Wandermere Investments LLC, plans to build a strip center with up to 40,000 square feet of floor space near the northeast corner of U.S. 395 and Farwell Road, says Jason Strain, development coordinator at Vandervert Developments LLC. The project will be the third and final phase of Wandermere Village, which includes a Sharis restaurant, Village Centre Cinemas, and other retail buildings, Strain says.

Plans for the strip center still are in the conceptual stages, but it likely will have up to 12 retail suites, ranging in size from 1,400 square feet to 13,000 square feet of floor space, he says. Russell Page Architects is designing the project, and Vandervert Construction Inc., of Spokane, will be the contractor. Vandervert Development and Vandervert Construction both are headed by Dick Vandervert.

The majority of site work on the 8-acre parcel has been completed, and Wandermere Investments hopes to start construction on the project in late summer, Strain says. The project will take about four months to complete. He declines to disclose a cost estimate.

Wandermere Investments is negotiating with potential tenants for the center, but none has signed a lease yet, Strain says. Vandervert Construction will build a shell and then will do tenant improvements as leases are signed, he says.
