Division couplet work looms

Spokane Rock is apparent low bidder on resurfacing that could start in August

February 26, 1997

Spokane Rock Products Inc., of Spokane Valley, is the apparent low bidder on a Washington state Department of Transportation project to resurface both legs of the Division-Ruby couplet here, from the Spokane River north to just beyond where the two streets rejoin as Division Street.

The northernmost point of the about one-mile project is Divisions intersection with Euclid Avenue.

Spokane Rocks bid of about $1.2 million will include grinding and paving work to correct normal wear on the heavily traveled thoroughfare, which is designated there as U.S. 2 and U.S. 395, and the improvement of American With Disabilities Act access ramps on both streets, says Glenn Wagemann, DOT project manager.

Wagemann expects the work to begin in early August and to be completed within 35 calendar days.

The resurfacing work will be done at night between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, he says. During that time, the contractor will have the option of closing up to two lanes of traffic at a time in each direction, leaving at least two lanes of traffic open on each of the two streets.

The contractor can install the disability access ramps during the day, and has the option of closing one outside lane of traffic on either street for that work, Wagemann says.
